Agawam Agawam's name, which means "crooked
river" comes from its location along the banks of the Connecticut
river. This residential community with a thriving commercial and industrial
base has grown from its roots as an agricultural town, incorporated in
1855. Today, the Agawam Industrial Park promises increased business growth, while the jewel of
the city is Six Flags New England, the largest amusement park in New England.
The Town of Agawam is managed through a mayoral form of government and a town council.
